Installation
Board Ad Installation Guide
Follow these steps for a smooth, durable install on rink dasher boards. Two people are required for proper installation.
What You’ll Need
- Two people
- Utility/X-Acto knife (or scissors)
- Flat razor knife (for scraping/shaving)
- Squeegee
- Denatured alcohol & lint-free cloths
- Painters tape or masking tape (for hinges & holding position)
Before You Start
- Remove shavings and loose board material with a flat razor knife to create the smoothest surface possible.
- Clean the surface thoroughly with denatured alcohol to remove dust, dirt, and oils.
- Important: Other cleaners can leave a film that weakens the adhesive. Stick to denatured alcohol only.
Position & tack the decal
Align the decal on the board exactly where you want it. Use tape on the corners to hold it in place.
Create a centre tape hinge
Apply a double strip of tape vertically down the middle of the decal to form a secure hinge.
Peel backer on the first half
Remove the corner tapes on the right half and fold that half back over to the left. Person 1 holds the corners while Person 2 carefully peels the paper backer away up to the centre hinge.
Trim away the released backer
Cut off the peeled backer from the right half so the adhesive side of the decal is free to mount.
Apply from the centre out
With Person 1 keeping the right half gently tensioned off the board, Person 2 uses a squeegee to press the decal onto the board, starting at the centre hinge and working up and down, then outward, to remove air bubbles.
Remove hinge & repeat
Remove the centre hinge tape and the remaining corner tape. Repeat the same process for the left half of the decal.
Final trims
Use a sharp knife to trim edges as needed for a clean finish. Avoid cutting into the underlying board surface.
Check adhesion
Run the squeegee over the full surface once more, especially edges and seams, to ensure full contact and adhesion.
Proper preparation and following this method will result in reliable adhesion on dasher boards over time.
